First Secondary school experience
As today was my first day at school, I was feeling a little apprehensive, mainly because of the transportation. I was to take public transport-LRT and bus-to Swiss Cottage, the secondary school I was posted to. The bus ride, was the worst part of the journey. Two 187 buses arrived at the bus stop at the same time. The first bus was too filled up with passengers. The second, had only room for four more people, most fortunate for me. Half of the commuters in the bus were Swiss Cottage pupils.
Upon arrival at the school, I had no idea what to do. Everyone seemed to be seated down in the hall except for me, and some other pupils, who looked as confused as I was. Thankfully, a student leader later directed us to our seats-we were, in fact to be seated randomly.
After morning assembly, we were split into different Orientation Groups. I was in Orientation group 9. Today was a little dull. After the usual introducing one another, handing in some forms, and a little icebreakers, we headed to the hall for a talk presented by the Discipline Master. The Discipline Master was very comical, unlike my former discipline master in Zhenghua Primary school. In no time at all, he got us all doubling over with laughter!
Recess was another interesting thing. The entire canteen was filled with pupils, most of which were queuing up for food. The snake-like ques were so long, that they stretched from one end of the canteen, all the way to the near end of it. Instead of trying to find the store with the most delicious looking food, I ended up looking for the store with the shortest queue.
Finally it was my turn to order. Originally, I had wanted to eat mash potato with grilled chicken. However, it seemed they were out of grilled chicken! Next, I tried, scrambled eggs with baked beans, and two slices of bread. But they too were out of scrambled eggs! I never realised that secondary pupils had such voracious appetites. This was totally different from primary school! In the end, I had to settle for mash potato, baked beans and two slices of bread.
More talks were in store for us later in the afternoon. Fortunately for us, tomorrow would be games, games and more games. No more seating on the floor in the hall for 4hrs, listening to principals, and teachers blabber on. Looking forward to tomorrow.
